Telling Graham's Family

Well, we finally told Graham's family yesterday (except his younger sister and brother - they won't be around until Christmas so we'll let them know then.)

We drove up to his Dad's place and when Graham walked through the front door, he greeted his father with "Evening, Grandad." and a hand shake. I panicked for a few seconds because I didn't realise he was planning on telling him like that. Fortunately his dad didn't seem to think it was anything more than a tease about him getting older. Later on as we were having some mince pies and mulled wine by the fireplace, (I had tea instead of wine) Graham finally plucked up the courage to tell them the news.

"So, I wasn't exactly joking when I called you 'Grandad' earlier..."

It took his dad a minute to realise what he was saying but once he caught on he was completely speechless. He was really happy though and he gave me a big hug and said congratulations.

After we left there, we drove to Graham's sister Laura's place and walked with her and her boyfriend Robin down to a Thai food restaurant for dinner. As we were walking, Graham said "So Becky has some news for you." I refused to say anything because I had already told my family - this was his turn! Laura started to get impatient and asked for a hint so Graham said "Alright, your hint is 'Aunty Laura'." I don't think she believed him at first but after a few minutes they were both pretty happy about the news.

After we had dinner with his Dad, Anne (his dads gf), Laura and Robin, we walked to a nearby pub where we had decided to meet up with Graham's mom and her husband. When we got there it was really noisy so I wasn't sure if he was going to say anything until we left but after about 20 minutes, when I wasn't even paying attention, I looked at Graham and his mom and realised he had just told her. She turned to me with a disbelieving look on her face and said "Is he telling porkies?" I smiled and shook my head and she looked back at him. It took her a few seconds but then she was overwhelmed and jumped up to congratulate me with a hug. She even cried a little and as soon as she sat back down she said "I need to start knitting!"

This evening I finally told my brother Robbie over the phone. His reactions never fail to amuse me. After I gave him the news his response was:
1) "When?!"
2) "How many months are you?"
3) "Did you hear about Grandma?" (she had broken her arm a week ago)

Silly Robbie :) He did end up congratulating me afterward though.

I sent out a mass email to my aunts, uncles and cousins so they'd all find out at roughly the same time and I think I'm going to start telling a few friends as well.

It's been a long and busy day so I think I'll go to sleep now.
